Volunteers Providing Endless Support to the Betterment of Our Community
Recycling Committee
Steve and Karen Motenko began recruiting neighbors in early 2025 for a curbside recycling program. El Parque guard José Santos offers his truck and his time to load recyclables and drive them to the recycling center in West Ajijic. José’s time and expenses are reimbursed via the donations (20-40 pesos) that participants leave with their recyclable items.
The month’s recycling days are noted on El Parque’s community activities calendar. Pickup is completed by rotating pairs of volunteers – once a week during the snowbird season and every two weeks from late spring through early fall. Volunteers pick up recyclables at curbside and load them into José’s truck. The process only takes about 45 minutes, and it’s quite rewarding to see a truckful of items you’ve helped rescue from a landfill.
Click the button below for the Recycling Guidelines, which change often due to shifting requirements from the Recycling Center in West Ajijic. Please contact Steve Motenko (Casa 104 – 33 3457 6359) if you have any questions or if you’d like to be part of the recycling team. Your services will only be required roughly once every 4-6 weeks.
